BeefLedger Ecosystem Design

The BeefLedger ecosystem is designed as a series of Pods, anchored around the idea of smart contracts as relationships between the past and the future.

It is made up of 7 foundational projects, each with a specific purpose to anchor the network and ensure best practice in their respective areas of expertise:

Project Kratos - Multisig Consensus Mechanisms & Governance

This is BeefLedger’s Proof of Authority (POA) blockchain common knowledge data ecosystem sandbox. It is a live production environment that has been conceived and implemented with an explicit ethos of agility so as to enable community capacity building, and network development through co-design. That is, our aim is to utilise a living laboratory environment to progressively develop a robust decentralised common knowledge data ecosystem, suitable for dependable supply chain function, in which participants can have a high level of confidence in data validity.

Project Janus - Smart Contracts (Backward & Forward)

Janus is from the Roman; Janus is the God of Openings/Beginnings, Time and Endings. For us smart contracts are about the past (track and trace; records of historical events) and they are also about incentivising the emergence of the desired future. We can and do use mechanism design ideas to create markets and value signals to shape behaviours in ways that communities want. Smart Contracts can 'lock in' the data conditions of performance, and ensure distributions of value in accordance with explicit rules.

Project Prudentia - Risk & Insurance

This is explicitly about risk and risk mitigation. We are mainly interested in the ability to utilise a range of data (Project Revelation) to reduce risk of product degradation or loss. Degradation for livestock takes place through injury, mortality and weight loss (shrinkage) during transport. We have some mechanisms conceptualised upon which insurance products can be implemented via smart contracts. As for degradation of perishable products right through to spoilage, we have also designed some of the core features of the mechanisms.

Project Fiducia - Asset Digitalisation & Market Liquidity

Project Fiducia focuses on:

  • Digitalisation of assets using non-fungible tokens (ERC721 tokens);

  • Increasing the utility of $BEEF;

  • Developing and deploying the Digi Units product (a regulated security); and

  • Streamlining the use of $BEEF via MorphChat and by delivering Supply Chain Finance solutions.

The BeefLedger Exchange, Uniswap and other listings are part of browsing the accessibility of $BEEF.

The BeefLedger Wholesale Marketplace will be based on $BEEF <> ERC721 transactions, whereby anyone can participate in the Primary Wholesale Market.

Our aim is to progressively enable (1) direct purchase of the Digi Units (which will be made available as a secondary offer) and (2) direct fractionalisation of assets.

Project Com-Munos - Cross-chain Transactions & Governance

This is the Latin root for community and derives from the words for together and reciprocity in gift. This is our focus on issues that impact cross-chain / cross-community interoperability. For instance, our Escrow contract enables atomic swaps, which can support cross-chain transactions. We are also working on deployments in the Chinese Blockchain Services Network environment, which will involve some cryptography so as to protect privacy and confidentiality.

We are also enabling transactions that straddle the Ethereum Mainnet and the BeefLedger Proof of Authority 'side chain' that is deployed on Ethereum.

Project Demos - Community Engagement & Empowerment

This project is fundamentally about community engagement and empowerment. It is multi-dimensional, and has so far been spearheaded by our BeefLegends initiative. The scope of the project is for the development of training and education content, community referral and rewards programs etc. This is a classic opportunity to develop a range of 'social mining' and ‘proof of care’ opportunities.

Project Revelation - IOT Interfaces

This is our IOT Suite of projects. Our first product developed in Project Revelation is the BeefLedger RFID Scan-App, which seamlessly links existing RFID hand-scanners to our Proof of Authority Network. The second feature was to make asset registration a bit easier, so that we can also ingest .csv files.

The next sets of IOT interfaces will focus on: temperature gauges; cattle location data; product location data; vehicle location data. We then move to data on livestock weight. In all of these implementations, Phase 1 will be integration with existing Databases via API (these effectively function as singular Oracles). Future iterations will introduce options for device decentralisation.

We are also beginning exploratory work to align supply chain data with the emerging field of Precision Nutrition and Precision Health.
